How to Prevent Real Drownings, Not the Baywatch Kind

October 20, 2011

A lifeguard's job is to sit around, twirl a whistle, and wait for a swimmer to splash and yell loudly as soon as they need to be rescued. Of course I don't think that, but I would imagine that is the way a large portion of society views guarding. And can you really blame them? If you look at the way Hollywood has dramatized drownings, it isn't difficult to reach the conclusion that lifeguarding is a piece of cake.

Unfortunately, spotting a distressed swimmer is no where near as easy as it looks on Baywatch. In order to prevent real life drownings

5 Avoidable Deaths at the Indiana State Fair

August 16, 2011

A large concert stage collapsed under the pressure of 70mph winds at the Indiana State Fair this past Saturday. Reports have indicated that at least five people have died and dozens more have been injured. According to a TIME Magazine article on the tragic events, AccuWeather had issued a warning of high wind gusts more than 15 minutes before the stage collapsed.

Fifteen minutes almost definitely would have been enough time to clear the concert area of the 12,000+ people waiting for the concert to begin. If organizers did, in fact, receive warnings from the National Weather Service or AccuWeather, they would have been forced to make a difficult decision. They could either

Video: How To Properly Load a 15 Passenger Van

April 05, 2011

It's no secret; 15 passenger vans can be extremely dangerous. A high center of gravity and poor weight distribution make these vehicles far more likely to rollover, especially when traveling at high speeds.

For these reasons, we actively encourage all of our summer camps, sports clubs, and youth program customers to consider using alternative forms of transportation. With that said, we recognize that replacing an entire fleet of vehicles in this economy can be an

Shocking Footage: Bullied Child Fights Back

March 15, 2011

A really sad video has been making the rounds online for the last 24 hours or so. The 40-second clip shows a school-aged boy being taunted, teased, and physically harrassed by his peers. The boy being teased takes the abuse for 15-20 seconds, but then, in an attempt to defend himself from more phsycial harm, grabs the bully and slams him dramatically into the ground.

The bully limps away with what many are now reporting is a dislocated knee. And while it sounds as if neither of the children involved will suffer long-term physical harm, this whole scenario could have been so much worse. Take a look at the video below and you'll immediately
